An area of which I have just become aware is the importance of digital citizenship and safety on the internet.
Having two small children myself I am becoming hesitant of posting photos of them on the internet unless it is to loved ones and family overseas.
During the course of my studies we were asked to do a Google search on ourselves and see what came up.
While nothing came up when I did a search on myself, it was a real eye opener the access anyone has to us if we post something on the internet, including future employers!
Children these days have an online presence from the time they are quite little thanks to proud parents posting photos on social media.
It is important as parents and teachers we teach digital responsibility and help our students become aware of their digital footprint and become responsible digital citizens.
We do this by teaching children what they put on the internet stays there forever-good or bad.
We address cyber bullying and devise strategies with the students on how to avoid it; encourage positive peer networking and media literacy.
